Last frost date here in SW Wyoming is June 15th. Most people wait until the 2nd week in June to direct plant anything. But, this year everyone was so ready to be done with our looooong winter that most of us have been putting plants out already. Yes, I have broken my own hard learned advice and have planted seeds and more mature plants in my gardens. Thank goodness for plant covers 😉
Homemade hoops with plastic for cold weather, mesh material for shade as it gets hot later in the summer. Right now I’m excited to be getting natural rain in the form of thunderstorms in the afternoons. Lies through the next week are still in the mid 40s, no 30s seen yet.
Being on the low desert, I'm dealing with keeping my plants hydrated with the 100 degree temps. So far, I've lost my strawberries and some lettuce, but the tomatoes, kale and bee balm are doing great.
I spent the chilly evening yesterday weeding our teeny garden plot and decided to get my pepper plants in the ground. I was not super thrilled when I got a notification about a frost warning this morning. 🙄 Hoping I won’t regret my decision but we will be gone all weekend and I wanted to get them off my porch!!!
I do, they've been in the semi-shade of the back porch for weeks now, and we're installing a bamboo shade to cool it down. Fingers crossed!
Good luck! I hope your plants survive and thrive.
Your blogs are delightful! Love the history and humor! I will be rereading this one!
I am determined to make headway with my flower garden areas this weekend!
Thank you so much! It should be a good weekend for flower planting.

That's such a long wait, I think I would cave too and just plant! I've had variable success with plant covers- what do you use?

Thinking of incorporating hoops here, too. It would be nice to be able to keep some greens going in the colder weather.
Lows, not lies hahaha
That's ok, our weather forecasts can be lies here too!

That sounds like a heroic task! Sad for your strawberries. Do you have to shade your plants at all?

Oh no! I hope your plants are alright. There's always a chance they'll survive the frost. Have a great time away!
