The photo essays here on The Suburb Farm are non-AI generated. They are the work of human thought & artistic sense. This means hours of creative work & the arrangement of words in a way that connects with other people. The result is my own surety that when you engage on this Substack, the interaction is fully human.
I trust that readers will honor the social contract around sharing & using others’ posts on the internet. All the photos and words here on The Suburb Farm are my own. I put a lot of time and effort into creating & editing them, so please respect my work. If you'd like to use anything, just shoot me a message. Let's keep it friendly and legal!
I am Luddite-adjacent and highly skeptical of new technology. I want humankind to re-learn and keep that which is good from our past and present. I believe we were created to use our minds and hands to beautify our surroundings & to help each other.
I do not, however, think that AI is inherently bad. I use the internet (obviously), welcome technological advancements that promote human flourishing, and live on the grid. I’m the kind of person who will continue to use the Oxford comma in text messages.
I am happily married to a man who embraces new technology. He has not installed any “smart” appliances or voice-powered virtual assistants in our house, out of respect for my mind formed by reading dystopian novels old-fashioned viewpoint. He has been working with and exploring the possibilities of AI for several years now. In order to promote the use of AI for good, he has helped start forums around the use of AI in various settings, locally to internationally.
If smart, kind people can learn to direct & shape AI in these still-early stages, then humanity stands a chance; not just to survive, but to solve problems that affect us all. So, if you’re intrigued by that sort of thing, I highly recommend my husband’s new Substack: Latent Codex
Thank you, as always, for being here and for joining the conversation.
